Kindergarten

Five- to six-year-olds are the “seniors” in our little school, and we are constantly amazed at the scope of their creativity, curiosity, knowledge, and abilities. Students will build upon the knowledge gained in their previous school experiences and expand their knowledge of phonemic awareness, math concepts, science topics, and social development. 

Kindergarten students also develop confidence in reading, writing, and expressive language. Independent reading and comprehension in both English and Spanish are incorporated into the curriculum. In math, students learn to add and subtract in complex problems and problem solve accordingly. Science and social studies are also integrated within the program, which allows students to explore and learn about the world around them. Kindergarteners are exposed to the Common Core standards in current use in California, and are assessed with these in mind. Chromebooks are used in our Kindergarten class so that the students may begin to learn basic computer skills while learning math and phonics.

On average, B.L.A. graduates will have not only met, but exceeded the requirements for first grade entrance in public or private schools. Individual results may vary, especially when students are often absent. Therefore, we ask that parents plan vacations according to the school calendar to support their child’s academic career.
