Preschool 1

Children who turn three years old on or before August 31st of the year they are applying for will be placed in Preschool 1.  This program is constructed with the realization that this may be a child’s first school experience.

Using an eclectic approach, the curriculum is designed in a way that promotes both independent skills and group cooperation. While ordered and structured carefully, the learning environment is flexible enough to accommodate the individual needs of our youngest students. The classroom is filled with an interesting variety of manipulatives, blocks, books, puzzles, and other fun and educational materials.

The curriculum is also designed to support the children’s ability to move, grow, and express themselves in a variety of ways. The children have ample time for free exploration, as well as group and/or teacher-directed activities. Emphasis is placed upon the development of fine motor control and coordination, sequencing, and task completion. Name and number recognition are encouraged, as well as pre-writing (tracing) skills.

Strong emphasis is placed on language development — both comprehensive and articulated, and encouraged through songs, finger-plays, and a variety of activities.
